Vastu Shastra for flat: Top 7 Points to Consider While Buying A Flat.

Vastu Shastra for flats

You are buying a house for the first time in your life. After a long search, a search that was longer than searching for your soul mate. You finally decide on the perfect flat you want to buy. At the very last moment, someone will 100% tell you. Please check the “Vastu of the flats!”

You are confused and don’t know what to do.

Vastu Shastra for flats

Someone telling you to check the Vastu for your flat has only good intentions in their heart. Vastu Shastra is a traditional Indian system of architecture. This system gives you the benefit of positive energy flowing into your house and, in general, your life.

“Vāstu” a Sanskrit word, literally means a dwelling. The root word is vas which means “to dwell, live, stay, reside.” So when vas becomes vāstu, the meaning changes to “the site or foundation of a house, site, ground, building or dwelling-place, habitation, homestead, house.”

Thus Vāstu-Śastras means the science of dwelling/house. Vāstu-Śastras is a science of arranging the five elements – earth, water, fire, air, and sky in complete harmony.

Is Vastu Shastra applicable for flats?

As we just understood that Vastu Shastra is the science of dwelling. So each Vāstu, that is the place where you stay, this science is applicable. So yes, Vastu Shastra is as relevant for flats as it is for plots and an independent bungalow.

You will have to balance the five elements. Create harmony. Because all these elements are fundamental, earth, water, fire, air, and sky contribute towards the higher positivity inside a flat.

Vastu Shastra for 2bhk flat

Suppose you have decided to buy a flat in any of the urban cities. The possibility is that you might be thinking of buying a 2 BHK.

Most of my clients opted for a 2 BHK for its convenience, from a budget standpoint and a straightforward resale standpoint. Compared to a 1 BHK, 2 BHK is decent enough in size and is not as heavy on the budget as 3 BHK. So let’s discuss Vaastu Shastra for a 2 BHK flat.

Following are the top seven things that you should keep in mind. This is the same checklist if you want to check Vastu Shastra for 1 bhk flat.

  1. Proper Sunlight And Ventilation
  2. From which Direction is the Entrance
  3. Placement of the Living Room
  4. Kitchen and which direction is the kitchen top
  5. Bedroom as per the entrance and the Kitchen
  6. Common Wall Apartment
  7. Toilet
  • Proper Sunlight And Ventilation

Fresh morning sunlight is full of positive energy, so ensure good morning sunlight is directly entering your home. The morning sunlight is mainly considered to be the best source of positive energy. So as per Vaastu Shastra, you should have balconies and a few windows in the east or north direction.

The presence of morning sunlight is the most welcome thing that can be present inside the house. That is why you see that people created most of the old bungalows in an east-facing manner. More open space from the east is better; fresh morning sunlight flowing into your house is always welcome. Thus when you sit down with the floor plan, ensure that your balconies and most of the windows are east facing. Additionally, you can have north east as your flat’s direction.

  • From which Direction is the Entrance

Based on the positive energy that morning sunlight brings into your house, East and North East is the most preferred entrance for a flat. So, according to Vastu Shastra, the door should be in the East or North-East, bringing positivity and good luck into your house.

Well, this is where there is one small caveat for all of us. The challenge is always getting an east-facing apartment because when buying flats, first think of the point mentioned initially that balconies and windows should be east-facing.

Having balconies and windows east-facing is of prime importance. Add on to that if you get an East facing entrance great. Beyond that, try to avoid the South facing or West direction facing entrance, as it is considered not that positive from an energy flow point of view.

  • Placement of the Living Room

In most scenarios, you will have the living room immediately after the entrance. Thus, a living room in the east direction is most beneficial. A living room in the east direction helps develop social relationships and further strengthens these social relationships.

  • Kitchen and which direction is the kitchen top

For your kitchen southeast corner is the most preferred spot. The Kitchen plays the most vital role in any household. Since the Kitchen is also where you have the fire, the southeast direction is the best suited to placing fire within the house.

Continuing the same thought of creating a harmony of the five elements, the southeast corner is the most pleasant place for fire as an element. Then again, while cooking food, the person preparing the food should be facing east, so you should choose the Kitchen in the southeast for placing the fire palace. Fireplace being gas or stove.

  • Bedroom as per the entrance and the Kitchen

So far, we have discussed the placement of the living room and Kitchen. So the east and southeast directions are not the place to have the bedrooms. Please try not to set up a bedroom either in the east or southeast direction.

Placing bedrooms in the east or southeast direction can lead to some health issues and conflicts. Hence it is always preferred that someone should have the bedroom in other directions. Typically these directions are southwest and northwest

  • Common Wall Apartment

As far as possible, you should avoid buying into an apartment with a common sharing wall. I have seen many builders designing flats such that there are no common sharing walls.

Typically, sharing walls creates a chance that the energies are divided between the house. So if you share a flat with your neighbors, positive or negative energies can get divided between the flats. So, according to Vastu Shastra, please avoid apartments with shared walls.

  • Toilet

Continuing the same logic of creating harmony, we should avoid placing a toilet in the directions where there is a possibility of positive energy flow. This says placing a bathroom in the north, east, or you should avoid North-East.

It is believed that placing a toilet in these directions can lead to decreased immunity of the people living in that Vastu. Vastu as in the dwelling place or the house. This is how Vastu Shastra works for a flat in creating a harmony of the five elements for a peaceful living.

How important is Vastu for flats?

As per the discussion so far, Vastu shastra is very critical for most places where you stay or work. It typically harmonizes all the five elements we have discussed so far. These are just small, easy checks you can do to create a positive environment and a better living place.
